HABIBY

Dear you,

This is not some tale

of what my life would have been

without you.

Neither is it some confession

Of a healed heart.

But a duty to be fulfilled

to you and my beloved ones;

An obligatory narration

of what your love has taught me

how your love has transformed me

and where your love has carried me.

For the last time I checked

to see how that hollow

in my heart was faring,

i found it no more

Is it not strange

that every thought of you

transforms into an ayat

from the glorious book?

Ringing on my tongue

Till it lulls me to bed?

Do you feel the same?

Just a glance at you

Drowns me in the ocean

Of His love

Till I come out stronger

I know as much as you know

that some would love to see me

with bunches of roses and lilies

flanked by gorgeous confetti

pouring beautiful petals adorning the aisle

on which we walk down

to our eternal union.

I would rather wish beyond that scene

and see us walk hand in hand

through the dusty paths of this dunya

to the beautiful gates of firdaus

while you wrap me tight

in your sweet embrace and say

“This is what we have been promised

for all the patience we endured”

When even the tiniest inch of you

reminds me of my creator;

O Habiby,

trust your instincts

when it tells you of how much

you have swept me off the ground

  1. Salaams sister, I can’t seem to find a way to message you directly so hopefully this is fine. I would really love for you to review my book, “Asiyah: A quest for self-love.” Please do check it out at http://www.asiyahthebook.com and get back to me if you’re interested. Thank you!
